Are you going to Reliant?”
Dog show people in and near Texas instantly know what this question means. It means, “Are you competing in the largest show in the state?”
Officially called the Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows, this once televised dog show takes place over five days in July at Houston’s Reliant Center. The show is huge, attracting over 40,000 spectators, and offers something for any dog person; whether they are competing for Best in Show, in Agility, Obedience, Flyball, Frisbee, Musical Freestyle, or just looking for something special for their Best in House Dog.
Even people not competing love to attend for the vast selection of dog products available from a long list of vendors. It’s a great venue for the public to learn about various breeds at Meet the Breed booths. Rescue groups participate with their own booths, educating the public about breeds, dog needs, and matching up potential new owners with adoptable dogs.
Tomorrow is the last day of the show, but don’t think you’ve missed it all. This year includes an event for all types of dogs to try their paw at agility, purebred or mixed. It takes place Saturday and Sunday. Go here for the full details: AKC My Dog Can Do That!
In fact, rather than spend time reading about the show here, click on over to Reliant Park to get full details about events, and visit their Facebook page and Twitter feed for fresh news coming from the show. If you are a lover of dogs, and all things dog, a trip to this show is worth the effort.
