Tragedy on the Sea Nymph is a 10-minute silent film starring an all-dog cast (with a Frenchie cast in a star role!). The film made its debut in May at The Machine Project in Los Angeles and while the film is silent, the music and singing certainly are not. As the film plays, live opera singers and a string quartet perform the accompanying musical score; presenting romance and tragedy between two shipwrecked lovers in dramatic operatic fashion. The film seems to be on selective tour and was presented to a delighted audience of humans and dogs at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis last night.

Conceived by artist Elizabeth Cline, who wrote and directed it, this film could be the start of series. Other film credits go to composer Lewis Pesacov, cinematographer Amanda Law, and editor Emily Lacy. (And of course all the canine stars!)

Enjoy the trailer below which explains the film, the artists, and the dogs. It may be time to petition your local theater group for a night at the dog opera in your town!  :-)
