This week Click & Clack, Tom and Ray Magliozzi – the infamous Tappet Brothers, answered a reader’s question about whether it was safe to let her guide dog ride in the floor board of the passenger seat.

For the fun and witty version of the answer, you’ll need to read their column, (available here) but the paraphrase was: No. The air bag could deploy and injure the dog and herself, and she should stick to using a seat belt harness for her dog and keep the dog in the back seat.

They said they would love to hear from anyone with real dog-and-air-bag-safety data. If you have any, know of any, or would just like to share your opinion, drop them a line at: CarTalk.com. (Definitely a discussion we’d like to follow.)

And who knew? The Car Talk site is a wealth of both car and dog info. For much, much more on dog and animal safety in and around cars, visit their links below.

Car Talk has a special “Wildlife and Your Car” section. Lots of interesting tidbits there. (One tip is missing from the how to get the dead mouse smell out of your car – sell the car! That’s what we had to do once. Phew! Makes the occasional Frenchie “fragrance” downright pleasant in comparison.)
