You see a national story, then wonder how it might effect you and your pets. How to find out?

A visit to your state’s Veterinary Medical Board website can be a quick way to check. The board is part of your state government and is usually responsible for licensing veterinarians and/or veterinary practices. Some boards cover much more than this, but varies per state based on funding and other factors.

Often, important issues are posted for public education and review. In the unfortunate circumstance of a complaint against a veterinarian or practice, this is the agency to contact to file a complaint.

Another place to check for local information is your state’s Veterinary Medical Association site. Not part of your state’s government; this is an association of veterinarian professionals where members join voluntarily. They do have some oversight of their members and can be good sources of information. Many associations provide a helpful “Find a Veterinarian” feature to search for a member vet within your state.

Kinda interesting to see what’s going on in your state. Take a mini-trip and check out some other states, too.
